Royal Couple, Marilyn Manwaring

Walking regally through sunshine reflecting dust, this traditional scratchboard was based on a photograph by Paul Fine (with his permission). Many thousands of fine lines were etched into this painting with tattoo needles, scalpels and fiber brush tools. Each stroke was carefully placed to give the feeling of the directionality of the fur and shadows left by the strong sunlight. Eyes firmly set on an unknown destination; the power of these felines is quite evident. I felt the painting needed more centering, so gold leaf was carefully painted in to create a border.
