Ebony and Ivory, Marilyn Manwaring

This painting was inspired by the multiple textures found in a closeup of this pachyderm’s face. From the smoothness of his tusk to the wrinkles of his skin, it was challenging to show the diversity of techniques needed to accurately portray this majestic animal. Tattoo needles were primarily used along with a #11 scalpel blade to remove the black India ink, revealing the white clayboard underneath.
