Giraffes are fascinating creatures, with their distinctive pattern of colors, blue tongues and long eyelashes. Their facial expressions can be anywhere from humorous to pensive… Special attention has to be paid to the directionality of the fur to create the three dimensional aspect of the neck. In this portrayal, veins and wrinkles were added so it did not just look like a long tube. Tattoo needles, scalpels, and fiberglass brushes were used to get the softness of the face and fine napping of the fur. The shadows of the ear were created to just melt into the black background and give “lost” edges to the portrait.
