Monkey Business, Marilyn Manwaring

This character was so enjoyable to paint. I am especially satisfied with his ears… that they turned out so lifelike is a testimony to the patience needed of scratching off the black India ink with tattoo needles, glazing in repeated layers of watercolors, re-scratching over the watercolor to get the highlights back, and then layering in more shades of color. In its entirety, this painting is a combination of at least four different photos to get the lips, eyes, forehead and ears the way I envisioned they would be.
