The Rivoli’s hummingbird is a large hummingbird found in the high elevations of southern Arizona and as far south as Nicaragua. Formerly known as the magnificent hummingbird, the Rivoli’s hummingbird is the second largest hummingbird in the United States. The heart rate of the Rivoli’s hummingbird can reach up to 1,200 beats per minute. The Rivoli’s hummingbird pictured here was feeding off the nectar from the last rose of the season in a garden in southern Arizona.
