Sonja Jones is a signature-level scratchboard artist based in Rio Verde, Arizona, known for desert-inspired works that capture the flora and fauna of the Southwest. Her daily access to desert landscapes informs her favorite subjects, which she photographs while hiking and later translates into detailed scratchboard compositions.
Sonja’s artwork has been featured in numerous Phoenix-area exhibitions, including shows at the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and the Shemer Art Center. She has exhibited at the internationally renowned Woodson Art Museum’s Birds in Art show in 2024 and 2026, as well as at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center in Cary, North Carolina, during the 2025 International Society of Scratchboard Artists conference. She also participates in respected art festivals, including the Kimball Arts Festival in Park City, Utah, and the La Quinta Art Celebration in La Quinta, California.
Her work has earned numerous awards from art festivals and juried shows, including Best in Show in 2025 for Almost in Bloom in the Colors of Humanity “Animals” show and First Place in Drawing for Trail Companions in Camelback Gallery’s 2024 show. Sonja was also featured in the Summer 2024 issue of Art & Color 360 Magazine in an article on scratchboard.
