Joseph Robertson is a self-taught Western and wildlife artist based in Prescott, Arizona. Joseph draws much of his inspiration from the landscapes, wildlife, and cultural life of the American West.
Robertson works primarily in scratchboard, brushing transparent acrylic into the etched lines, giving subtle coloration and depth to his intricate renderings.
His work often balances the realism and detail of wildlife and natural forms with a slightly stylized western aesthetic — the bright highlights and feather-fine scratch lines giving a shimmering contrast against deep blacks or dark backgrounds.
Over time he’s made a name for himself in the regional western-art circuit, showing in galleries and festivals across the inter-mountain west. His awards include Best of Show at The George Phippen Western Art Show, First Place Mixed Media at the St. George Art Show, and First Place Drawing at the Tempe Festival of the Arts. He has also been featured in “Southwest Art” and “Voyage Phoenix” magazines.
Joseph also owns the Joseph Robertson Gallery in downtown Prescott, on historic Whiskey Row, where much of his work is shown and sold.
