Join us for a continental breakfast of "people food" and activity stations that include a variety of movement, art, songs and learning exploration, followed by an amazing animal encounter. The activities in this program focus on promoting curiosity, fostering empathy, encouraging discovery and introducting/reinforcing age appropriate learning about numbers, letters, words, shapes, colors, textures and more!

Zoo Play Date (Ages 6-18 months)
Member - $15 per child/adult pair

Social interactions are an important part of learning and engaging - for children and adults!  The Zoo Play Date program provides an environment for your child to interact with others through play and exploration of the natural world with you by their side.

Littlest Critters (Ages 0-6 months)
Member - $15 per child/adult pair

Bond with your baby through nature and make connections with other parents/caregivers in this relationship-building focused program.  Through music, movement, touch and talk, you'll create opportunities for your Littlest Critter to experience the unique natural setting and elements of the Zoo.

Zoo Tots (Ages 18 months-3 years)
Member - $20 per child/adult pair

Positive interactions with animals and nature help lay a foundation for children to develop empathy and respect for the natural world. The Zoo Tots program introduces young children and their caregivers to some of the Zoo's friendliest animals and provides activity opportunities to help chiuldren learn and practice the basics of animal care. Vocabulary development, fine motor skill development, space for children to play independently and an up-close animal encounter are important and fun parts of the program.

Critter Keepers (Ages 6-9)

Member - $50 per child

General - $67 per child

Experience what it's like to be a zookeeper!  During this non-stop, fun-filled afternoon, young Critter Keepers participate in all aspects of animal care including cleaning, distributing diets and preparing enrichment items for our animal collection.  Small class sizes allow us to offer an exclusive and personalized adventure where children experience the excitement, hard work and patience required to be a keeper and care for Zoo animals.  All Critter Keepers are outfitted with a t-shirt and water bottle.

Critter Keepers Careers (Ages 10-13)

Member - $50 per child

General - $67 per child

Have you ever wondered what a career at the Zoo might be like? In this exciting program, you can find out! Critter Keeper Careers provides children with the opportunity to explore a variety of animal care careers through this non-stop, fun-filled afternoon! Critter Keepers participate in all aspects of animal care including cleaning, distributing diets and preparing enrichment items for our animal collection.  Small class sizes allow us to offer an exclusive and personalized adventure in which young people experience the excitement, hard work and patience required to be a Zoo professsional and care for Zoo animals. All Critter Keepers are outfitted with a t-shirt and water bottle.

Lunch with a Keeper for Families (Ages 6-9)
Member - $54 first child/adult pair
  $40 additional child/adult pair, $20 each additional adult

Lunch with a Keeper is like a coveted backstage pass to meet the band. Enjoy a pizza lunch while you make friends with (and learn from) animal experts – our zookeepers! Ask questions that only a keeper can answer and listen to stories that only a keeper can tell. After lunch, be treated to a behind-the-scenes tour and awesome animal experience led by the person who knows the animals best.  This unique experience is one of the best at the Zoo; you'll truly understand the passion and dedication involved with being a zookeeper.

Moonlight Walks

$3 per person, recommended for ages 10 and up.

Enjoy a family-friendly stroll along our half-mile Judith Tunnell Trail by the light of the full moon, featuring our South Mountain Storytellers and fun facts about the desert night!  Come over starting at 6 p.m. for chats with our Park Rangers about a variety of South Mountain topics before the walk begins.

Explore the Night Sky

$6 per person, recommended for ages 10 and up
6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Learn about the universe through an interactive educational session, focusing each month on new astronomical topics while younger learners are engaged in both indoor and outdoor activities.  Telescope viewing following interactive presentation, weather permitting.

October 25, 2018:  Moons, asteroids and other cosmic leftovers
November 29, 2018:  3,527 known planets and counting

Nature at Night Walks

$3 per person, recommended for ages 10 and up.
6:45 - 7:45 p.m.

Experience and explore the desert at night, guided by all your senses and a Park Ranger! Track down scorpions and lichen with ultraviolet lights, take notice of all of nature's sounds, savor the beautiful evening with a half mile hike on a paved trail.  Come over starting at 6 p.m. for chats with our Park Rangers about a variety of South Mountain topics before the walk begins.

South Mountain Petrogylphs: Art of Observation
Join Peter Krocek, co-author of the definitive guide to petroglyps at South Mountain, for an inteactive lecture and photographs from his decades exploring these remnants of Hohokam culture at South Mountain Park.

South Mountain Jr. Explorers

Outdoor adventures, crafts and desert stories await youth ages 3 - 8, allowing adults to explore the 60+ miles of trails at South Mountain on their own or through a Discovery Hike!

Registration recommended to ensure space.

 

Recommended for ages 3-8.

$15 per child, please provide a water bottle and snacks for each participant.
